The Southfield Community Foundation
is dedicated to attracting and holding permanently endowed
funds from a wide range of donors in order to enhance
the quality of life for those who live and work in our
communities.
As part of the Foundation's focus on
education, helping people achieve their highest aspirations
for the future, we have initiated the following scholarship
programs.

SCF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500.00
Established in 1999
The SCF Memorial Scholarship is an endowment fund established
at the Southfield Community Foundation to provide assistance
to residents of Southfield and Lathrup Village who are
seeking to further their education through study at an
accredited college, university, or vocational training
program.
The Fund
was initiated through memorial gifts contributed by
the families and friends of three community activists:
Vivian Hurite, Vicki Goldbaum, and Thomas Frommeyer.
Additional gifts to the fund have been made in memory
of Donald M. Fracassi, Shambline Quarles, Ada Moiseev,
Donald Powers and Sandra Terrell.

GENE TAYLOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500.00
Established in 2001
The Gene Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund was founded
by the Southfield Community Foundation to honor Gene Taylor's
work on the Foundation's Board of Directors and to celebrate
Gene's inspirational commitment to philanthropy through
his unwavering dedication to serve those in need.

LOUISE WARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2001
The Louise Ward Memorial Scholarship is presented annually
to a student at Southfield Lathrup High School for continued
studies in vocal music. The Fund was initiated by alumni
of the Southfield Lathrup High School Madrigal Singers
in grateful memory of Louise Ward–teacher, mentor, role
model, and friend.

Dates and Deadlines
The application
deadline for 2002 Scholarship Awards is April 10,
2002.
Scholarship Award winners will be announced at Southfield
Community Foundation's Celebration of Education
event at 5:30 p.m., Thursday evening, May 16, 2002
at the Southfield-Lathrup High School.
Applications
Applications will
be available in mid-February through high school counselors,
the Southfield Parks and Recreation office, the Southfield
Public Library, and the Southfield Community Foundation.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicant must
be a resident of Southfield or Lathrup Village, a senior
in high school, or possess a high school diploma or
GED certificate.
Applicant must be accepted to an accredited college,
university, or vocational training program.
Applicant must have a minimum grade point average
(GPA) of 2.00. (It is recognized that GED applicants
will not have a grade point average.)
Selection Criteria
The Foundation
is seeking applicants who exhibit exemplary leadership
and character as demonstrated by extracurricular activities,
service in the school, community volunteer involvement,
or work experience.
Special consideration will be given to those applicants
who have overcome specific hardship in order to achieve
their personal and educational goals.

Foundation by 5:00 p.m. on April 10, 2002
- The Memorial Scholarships
will be awarded at the Southfield Community Foundation's
Celebration of Education Meeting on May 16,
2002 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
