The final event in the 2002 Celebration of Diversity
is a cultural experience. The Diversity Concert will
be performed by the Southfield Philharmonic with the
assistance of the Cantata Academy. The program will
include: Vivaldi's Gloria, Bach's Suite #3 and Beethoven's
Fifth Symphony
We celebrate the arts because of the powerful ways
in which art and culture enrich our lives. This is especially
true for our youth. Music has been demonstrated to have
a powerful effect on the learning abilities, educational
creativity and expressiveness of our children. Concerts
are also wonderful opportunities for emotional growth
and bonding through family engagement.
Our Diversity Concert program is designed to explore
the musical expression and interpretation of faith,
mental inventiveness and the depth of human emotions.
With the generous assistance of our sponsors, we have
invited a number of students and their families from
Southfield's elementary schools to join us in this cultural
celebration of our diversity.
The Southfield Philharmonic, now in its 2nd season,
is under the musical direction of Joseph Striplin with
management services provided by Young Audiences of Michigan.
It has established a reputation for the highest qulity
of musical performance.
Members of the Symphony range in age from 13 to 98.
They are teachers and students, professional musicians
and community players. They live throughout Southeast
Michigan and represent the wonderful potential of the
rich diversity of our region.
