2002 Commitment To Community Awardee

Denso International America, Inc.

The DENSO corporate mission is to contribute to a better world by creating value together with a vision for the future.

As the fourth largest automotive supplier in world, with 85,000 employees in 29 countries and regions, DENSO is dedicated to supporting the communities where it does business. And, perhaps, nowhere is this more true than at DENSO INTERNATIONAL AMERICA, the company's North American headquarters located in Southfield, Michigan.

Over the years, DENSO has supported a wide variety of local community organizations such as the Southfield Community Foundation, and many other projects, including:

  • The establishment of the DENSO North America Foundation, a 501(c) (3) Corporate Foundation. The Foundation acts exclusively for charitable purposes on a centralized basis throughout North America by providing grants to institutions of higher learning for educational and/or scientific purposes, with an emphasis on engineering and technology.

  • City of Southfield/Friends of the Rouge - DENSO has contributed financial and volunteer resources in support of the Rouge Rescue (River Cleanup Project) as well as the Rouge Education Program, a program that encourages students to be conservators of the Rouge River watershed.

  • The creation of a state-of-the-art faculty training center in Lawrence Technological University's newly established $20 million Technology and Learning Center. The DENSO Instructional Technology Resource Lab, offers a full range of services to support the use and implementation of technology-based learning.

  • The development of a handicap accessible playground and sensory garden for the physically challenged students of Moses Field Elementary School through financial and volunteer contributions to Greening of Detroit.

  • Sponsorship of Mumford High School's involvement in F.I.R.S.T. robotics program. A competition that immerses high school students in the world of engineering. Teaming up with engineers from businesses and universities, students get a hands-on, inside look at the engineering profession.

  • Financial contributions in support of Focus: Hope's Machinist Training Institute.

  • Financial support of the International Science and Engineering Fair 2000 and the Engineering Society of Detroit/FutureLINK campaign.

  • Support for the continued implementation and expansion of the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP) programs which are dedicated to increasing opportunities for K-12 minority students to pursue careers in engineering, science and mathematics.

  • Support, through financial and volunteer resources, of the Women in Engineering and Minorities in Engineering.
